According to a recent story we heard on NPR, you might want to double check that you’re really being served the food you’re buying or ordering (especially if you live in Massachusetts). This article describes a study where 183 samples of fish were DNA tested only to reveal that 48% of the samples were sold with the wrong species name. Instead of red snapper… tilapia! Instead of white tuna… escolar! The article claims that, “greed and limited availability of some fish — as well as ignorance — seem to be the driving forces behind the fraud.” Very interesting and worth the read!
