Disclosure: We received a complimentary stay at 21c Museum Hotel St. Louis and dinner at Idol Wolf in exchange for social media promotion.
St. Louis has so many unique, wonderful places and it’s fun to be a tourist in your own town sometimes. Our weekend away was unforgettable.
We started with dinner at Idol Wolf. Chef Matthew Daughaday has been one of our favorites for years. From Niche, to Reed’s to Juniper, and now to Idol Wolf, we have admired his excellent craft and skill he brings to approachable and delicious dishes. We had a spread of tapas that were served in the order they were ready. Here’s what we tried:
Pan Con Tomate with Manchego and Jamon Serrano: amish tomato, garlic rub, grilled @loafersstl toast
Patatas Bravas: aji panca, piparra, tomato, aioli
“Chorizo” Roasted Hen of the Woods: chorizo spiced butter, masa cake, smoked aioli
Gambas Al Ajillo: Argentinian red shrimp, garlic, olive oil, chili, sherry
Grilled Octopus: potato, chorizo spice, herbs, lemon aioli
Beef Cheek Empanadas: mojo verde, mojo rojo
Bacalao Croquetas: calamansi aioli, picked sweet peppers
Churros: cinnamon, sugar, hot spiced chocolate fudge sauce
The atmosphere of Idol Wolf was a reminder that nightlife in St. Louis is alive and well. The bar was bustling with people from many walks of life, laughing and enjoying themselves under the huge arched windows that towered above. Once seated, the dining area is much quieter, with nooks for couples to tuck in and enjoy a semi-private feel. They also accommodate group reservations around larger round tables.
After dinner, we explored the museum within the hotel, open 24/7 to the public. Their rotating exhibits feature a collection of art from the 21st century. The hotel itself is a work of art. The building was home to the former YMCA and guests of the hotel have access to the Locust Street Athletic Swim Club, featuring a lap pool, hot tub, and saunas.
The rooms are gorgeous and feature original artwork and views of the city. 21c Museum Hotel also is home to @goodpress.stl, a neighborhood coffee house with a variety of breakfast and lunch items.
This Valentine’s Day, Idol Wolf will have a Valentine’s Day pre-fixe menu as well as their regular menu available in the dining room. They are also hosting a Galentine’s Day event on February 11th from 5-8pm.
