Fox’s Finest is a welcome addition to the culinary scene in St. Louis. Located in the heart of downtown Kirkwood, this local market serves high-quality meats, seafood, local grocery products, sandwiches, prepared foods, and more. Father-and-son founders Kevin and Luke Beattie are no strangers to the area. Kevin and his wife Jill along with their children are graduates of Kirkwood High School and live in the area. The name “Fox’s Finest” is a nod to the family name “Fox,” passed down for generations and both the shared middle name of Kevin and Luke.

With experience in the auto body industry, shifting to owning a marketplace is a new adventure for the family. With a passion for home cooking, Luke, along with his wife Kim, have travelled both nationally and internationally thanks to Luke’s previous job. Through their many travels, they discovered the world through a culinary lens and seek to bring elevated yet approachable flavors for others to enjoy at home. Working alongside family and in their own home community, Luke and Kevin saw a need for a place for locals to regularly shop for excellent ingredients.

The Beatties hope that at Fox’s Finest, customers will be greeted with familiar smiles and the freshest products. Butchers Josh Baum and Isaiah Andrew have years of expertise and are ready to help customers select cuts of meat and fish, along with tips for how to prepare their purchases at home.

Meat comes from grass-fed cows in Kansas, without hormones or antibiotics. Their cuts include offerings such as Wagyu strips, ribeyes, aged prime center cut filets, and more.

Missouri hogs are butchered on-site and Fox’s offers top-of-the-line cuts such as Berkshire Tomahawk chops, loin chops, Duroc pork steaks, pork tenderloin, and pork shoulder. They also have veal loin chops, veal tenderloin, and more. Fox’s makes their own burger blends, and beer brats, and chorizo all in house.

Their seafood is always fresh and never frozen. When they say fresh, they mean that their gorgeous Hawaiian tuna was swimming in the ocean two days before you prepare it at home. Highlights of the seafood counter will include rotating options, including king salmon, wild caught fluke, scallops and oysters.

Baked goods by Marissa Petran are worth the price of admission alone. Her gooey butter cake samples lure guests in to trying all of her incredible offerings. Pies, chocolate chip cookies, and the most heavenly European-style cream puffs they are calling “Fox’s Puffs” are the stars of the show.

Behind the deli counter, Brian Hamilton crafts large, succulent meatballs, packed with layers of flavor including red currants. Prepared food selections include a variety of chicken salads, pasta salads, baked beans, and more. They will have rotisserie chickens available during select timeframes as well.

Fox’s sandwiches are all prepared in-house with ingredients available in the store. The Fox’s Porchetta features roasted suckling pig, the Prime Steak showcases their seared steak, and the Chicken & Pickle highlights their rotisserie chicken.

Many local products are showcased throughout the store. From coffee to spice blends, chips and granola to pasta, the focus on local is apparent.

In addition to local products, Fox’s has imported grocery items such as olive oil, sauces, and tinned fish. Familiar items are also available so customers can grab everything they need for a nice meal at home. Nostalgic candy such as candy buttons, Swedish fish, and Bazooka bubblegum is placed at kid-level.

The details of the shop are as fascinating as they are stunning, with a gorgeous mural expanding over the wine area with Kevin and Jill’s house painted within the scene. Wood for the rafters and shelving was made from the Lemp mansion. Marketing, social media, and design is managed by Luke’s wife, Kim. Her professional expertise in marketing is evident. The team also collaborated with the Kirkwood High School advanced marketing class in the early stages to help build the brand.

Fox’s Finest features a selection of wines along the back wall to accompany an at-home meal. Offering a wide range in price, the selections include reds, whites, and roses.

To say we are impressed by Fox’s Finest and the Beattie team is an understatement. We’ll be there often and hope to see you there!
